Our company was founded in 2019 as a student start-up, with a vision to make a sustainable athletic line made from recycled material, with a dual-purpose mission of raising awareness and funding for our oceans.
SEAAV Athletics started with our founder, Mckenna Haz combining her love for the ocean and passion for athletics. Living on Vancouver Island her entire life she's grown up by the sea and is a huge ocean advocate. Through travel with sport, she has first hand seen the negative impacts single use plastics are having on our environment and wild-life.
We launched our Coastal Collection in Spring of 2020 and our Vanora Collection Spring of 2021. All our items have post-consumer plastic bottles spun into each piece. Our lead designer Maeum Han, graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NYC, to bring you on trend, butter soft, moisture wicking, and well thought out designs.
In addition, with every purchase, through ocean clean up, one pound of waste is collected from our shorelines. #makewavesnotwaste
All of our ocean clean-up initiatives are facilitated through the Plastic Bank. "We build ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities, and reprocess the materials for reintroduction into the global supply chain as Social Plastic®. Our members receive a premium for the materials they collect which helps them provide basic family necessities such as groceries, cooking fuel, school tuition, and health insurance. Our certified blockchain platform secures the entire transaction and provides real-time data visualization – allowing for transparency, traceability, and rapid scalability."
How do you turn recycled plastic bottles into athletic apparel?
Almost all activewear is made from plastic. We choose to make our athletic apparel with materials that would typically add to the single-use plastic problem. We take recycled plastic water bottles and crush them into flake, chip and then fibre. This fibre is spun into a soft, recycled yarn that diverts plastic bottles from landfills and is instead re-purposed into SEAAV apparel.
How do you ship sustainably?
We use the company Noissue. "Out with the old and in with the new. The perfect alternative to plastic poly mailer bags is here, and it's completely compostable. Our 100% Compostable Mailer is a great step towards sustainable packaging, and can be composted both at home and commercially. Break it down with us."
Where do you manufacture?
All of our textiles are made from recycled materials in our facility in Indonesia.
It is accredited by the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production Certification Program. This certification guarantees fair wages, safe and healthy conditions, and zero forced or child labor.
